Work. Play. Think. These concepts underlie the body of work I have been engaged with for several years. Starting with evocative vintage images, I strive to create a narrative contemporary mixed media commentary on subjects including changing social and political mores, the disappearance of the financially viable family farm, quirky architectural icons, as well as the rich and fascinating forms of vacationing and entertainment Americans enjoy.
Photographic media from family collections and auctions are restored and digitally altered . The slides, photos, and vintage negatives are prepared for printing with processes that range from gelatin transfers on wood to paper prints. The images are collaged on panels with acrylic mono prints, paints, tinted and polished plasters. found objects, and ephemera. While a sense of nostalgia is one goal, I leave it to the viewer to develop a personal story from the ensemble I create.
